Leaf-covered path leading through autumn trees to a stone church

The 100+ degree days are over…let the spooky season begin!

Hello my lovely found family!

We are officially in the final few days of the 54-Day Rosary Novena, with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary coming up on October 7.

I already have a proper closing post scheduled for that, but I wanted to leave a quick note here because the posting rhythm is going to shift a little once the novena wraps up.

The scapular series will still be part of the schedule, and I’ll also be adding something a little different for October: once a week, I’m going to post a short piece leaning into the season.

Because it is autumn…

Because Halloween is coming…

And because Catholic history has more than enough wonderfully strange, solemn, and occasionally macabre material to work with.

So over the next few weeks, expect some light reading on relics, stigmatics, incorruptible saints, and the old Christian tradition of memento mori—the art of remembering that we will die, and what that was supposed to teach us about living.

Nothing too heavy. Nothing sensationalized. (I dislike click bait as much as the next reader)

Just a seasonal walk through some of the darker corners of Catholic history and devotion.

I’ll also be out of town for about a week toward the end of the month, which means I won’t have much opportunity to sit down and write while I’m away. So October is going to be a little more structured, a little more pre-planned, and perhaps appropriately, a little more haunted.

The rosary novena may be winding down.

The rabbit holes, apparently, are not.
